“I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken…” — Psalm 37:25

There’s something sacred about looking back over the decades of our lives. Not just the highlight reels, but the quiet seasons, the confusing chapters, the unexpected turns, and the moments we didn’t think we’d make it through. When we trace the timeline of our story, one truth rises again and again: God has been faithful in every decade.
In Our Teens and Twenties — When We Were Becoming
Many of us stumbled through those early years with more questions than answers. We were learning who we were, who God was, and how to walk with Him. Even when we wandered, He stayed close. Even when we didn’t know how to pray, He listened. His faithfulness wasn’t dependent on our maturity.
In Our Thirties and Forties — When Life Grew Full
These were the decades of responsibility, stretching, and often exhaustion. Careers, families, ministries, bills, decisions—so many moving parts. Yet God met us in the busyness. He provided strength when we were overwhelmed, wisdom when we were unsure, and grace when we felt inadequate. Looking back, we see how many times He carried what we thought we had to hold alone.
In Our Fifties and Sixties — When We Began to See Clearly
By this point, we had lived enough life to recognize patterns of God’s goodness. We could look back and say, “He really did work that for my good.” We saw prayers answered in ways we didn’t expect. We saw His protection in places we didn’t notice at the time. We saw His patience with us, decade after decade.
In Our Seventies and Beyond — When We Testify
These are the years when God’s faithfulness becomes our testimony. We’ve lived long enough to know that He truly never leaves us. We’ve watched Him heal, restore, provide, and sustain. We’ve seen His mercy outlast our mistakes. We’ve seen His promises hold steady through every storm.
And now, our lives become a living reminder to the generations behind us: God is faithful. He always has been. He always will be.
The Thread That Never Breaks
When we look back, we don’t see a perfect life—we see a faithful God.
A God who walked with us through heartbreak and celebration. A God who stayed when others left. A God who kept His promises even when we doubted. A God who wrote beauty into chapters we thought were ruined.
Every decade tells a different story, but the Author remains the same.
Reflection
What decade of your life most clearly shows God’s faithfulness?
Where can you see His hand now, even in small ways?
How might your story encourage someone younger in the faith?
Lord, thank You for being faithful in every season of my life. Thank You for walking with me through youth, adulthood, and the years beyond. Help me remember Your goodness, trust You with what’s ahead, and share my story so others can see Your faithfulness too. Amen.
