Journaling Prompt: What future hope am I holding?

There’s a quiet kind of courage in believing that God is not finished with you.
Jeremiah 29:11 is one of those verses we’ve heard so often that it can start to sound like a greeting card instead of a promise spoken into real, aching lives. When God first spoke these words, the people of Israel were living in exile—far from home, far from normal, far from anything that felt like “prosperity.” They were waiting for rescue, longing for restoration, and wondering if God still remembered them.
Into that uncertainty, God didn’t offer a quick fix.
He offered a future.
“For I know the plans I have for you… plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
This is not a promise of ease.
He is already shaping the path.
He is already weaving goodness into places you haven’t walked yet.
And here’s the part we often miss:
Hope is not passive.
Hope is participatory.
Hope asks us to lift our eyes.
Hope asks us to trust that God’s future is bigger than our present limitations.
Even when you can’t see the next step, hope is the quiet whisper that says, “Keep going. God is already there.”
Today, let yourself rest in the truth that God’s plans for you are not fragile. They are not dependent on perfect performance or perfect timing. They are rooted in His character—steady, generous, and deeply invested in your flourishing.
Your future is not an accident.
It is a promise.
Journaling Prompt
What future hope am I holding?
Write freely. Let your heart wander toward the things you long for, the things you’re afraid to name, the things that feel too tender or too big. Notice what stirs. Notice what feels alive. Notice what God might be inviting you to trust Him with.
