A Meal That Turned Into Ministry

“Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospita

lity.” — Romans 12:13 (NIV)
It started with spaghetti.
Nothing fancy—just noodles, sauce, and garlic bread. I’d invited a neighbor over who’d recently lost her job. I figured a warm meal might lift her spirits. What I didn’t expect was how that dinner table would become holy ground.
As we passed the salad and poured sweet tea, stories began to flow. She shared her fears, her questions, her quiet ache for hope. I listened—not with answers, but with presence. And somewhere between the second helping and dessert, ministry happened.
Not the kind with microphones or bullet points. The kind with eye contact, laughter, and tears. The kind Jesus modeled when He broke bread with strangers and friends alike.
Ministry in the Mundane
We often think ministry requires a platform. But sometimes, it just needs a plate.
Jesus fed crowds, yes—but He also lingered over meals with individuals. He used food as a doorway to healing, truth, and connection. When we open our tables, we open our hearts. And in doing so, we make space for God to move.
Who might need a seat at your table this week?
What simple meal could become a sacred moment?
Lord,
thank You for the ministry of meals. Help us see our kitchens as sanctuaries, our tables as altars, and our conversations as offerings. May we feed not just bodies, but souls—with kindness, compassion, and Your love.
Amen.
