Ask and It Will Be Given

Prayer Journaling Prompt: “What am I asking God for?”

Jesus’ words in Matthew 7:7—“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you”—aren’t a formula or a vending machine promise. They’re an invitation into relationship. A reminder that God is not distant, indifferent, or annoyed by our needs. God is attentive. Present. Near enough to hear even the prayers we whisper under our breath.

When Jesus says ask, He is inviting us to trust that our needs matter. When He says seek, He is inviting us to participate in the unfolding of grace. When He says knock, He is reminding us that closed doors are not the end of the story.

Sometimes the answer comes quickly.

Sometimes slowly.

Sometimes differently than we imagined.

et your journal become a safe, sacred space where nothing is “too small,” “too big,” or “too messy” for God.

What am I asking God for?”

Let the answers come honestly.

Maybe you’re asking for clarity.

Or rest.

Or courage.

Or provision.

Or healing in places you rarely talk about.

Or a door to open that feels long shut.

Or simply the assurance that you’re not walking alone.

Whatever rises to the surface—write it without editing. God meets you in the truth, not the performance.

God,

You invite me to ask, to seek, to knock.

Give me the courage to bring my real desires before You.

Teach me to trust Your timing, Your wisdom, and Your love.

Open my heart to receive what You are already offering.

Amen.
