Devotional Mad Libs

ree

Sometimes we need a fresh way to engage with Scripture and worship. Just like a child’s game of Mad Libs, where you fill in the blanks with silly words, we can create a devotional rhythm that fills in the blanks of our hearts with God’s truth.

When we combine Scripture with the lyrics of songs that echo His promises, we discover that God’s Word is not only alive—it’s interactive, playful, and deeply personal.

The Game: Fill in the Blanks

Here’s your devotional Mad Libs. Read it aloud, and when you see a blank, fill it in with either a Bible verse or a song lyric that comes to mind. (I’ve given you some suggestions in parentheses, but feel free to choose your own!)

Devotional Mad Libs

Today I woke up feeling __________ (e.g., “weary and burdened” – Matthew 11:28). But then I remembered that God says, “__________” (e.g., “Be still, and know that I am God” – Psalm 46:10).

As I got ready for the day, a song came to mind: “__________” (e.g., “Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me”). Those words reminded me that God is __________ (e.g., “my refuge and strength” – Psalm 46:1).

When I faced a challenge today, I prayed: “Lord, help me to __________” (e.g., “walk by faith, not by sight” – 2 Corinthians 5:7). And in that moment, I felt __________ (e.g., “peace like a river” – hymn lyric).

So, I will end this day declaring: “__________” (e.g., “This is the day the Lord has made; I will rejoice and be glad in it” – Psalm 118:24).

When we fill in the blanks with God’s Word and worship, we’re reminded that our lives are not empty pages. They are living testimonies, written daily by the Spirit. The more Scripture and songs we store in our hearts, the more naturally they flow into the blanks of our everyday moments.

“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”   — Psalm 119:11

Closing Prayer

Lord, thank You for filling the empty spaces of my life with Your Word and Your presence. May every lyric I sing and every verse I remember be a reminder that You are with me, guiding me, and writing my story. Amen.

Print this Mad Libs devotional and keep it by their bedside. Each morning or evening, fill in the blanks with a verse or lyric that speaks to your current season. Over time, it becomes a personal journal of God’s faithfulness.
