Is God Really With Me?

The deepest questions are rarely shouted. They rise in the quiet moments, in the car after a hard appointment, in the hallway after everyone’s gone home, in the middle of the night when your thoughts won’t settle.

One of the most honest questions a believer ever asks is this:

“Is God really with me?”

The Truth: God’s Nearness Is Not a Feeling - It’s a Fact

Your emotions may rise and fall, but God’s presence does not.

Your circumstances may shift, but His nearness does not.

Your confidence may waver, but His commitment does not.

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those crushed in spirit.” - Psalm 34:18

God doesn’t move away when life gets heavy.

He moves closer.

  • When you feel overwhelmed, God’s presence is steady.

  • When you feel forgotten, God’s attention is fixed on you.

  • When you feel alone, God’s companionship is unbroken.

His nearness is something He promised.

Why We Sometimes Don’t Feel Him

There are three common reasons we question His nearness — none of which mean He has left.

  • Emotional exhaustion - When your soul is tired, your senses dull.

  • Spiritual noise - Life gets loud, and God’s whisper feels faint.

  • Unanswered prayers - Silence can feel like absence, even when it isn’t.

Where God Is Actually Showing Up in Your Life

Sometimes God’s nearness is not dramatic - it’s disguised.

  • In the strength you didn’t think you had

  • In the peace that made no sense

  • In the friend who checked on you at the right moment

  • In the Scripture that suddenly felt alive

  • In the breath you took when you thought you were done

They are the quiet evidence of a God who refuses to leave your side.

A Shift in Perspective

Instead of asking, “Is God with me?”

Try asking, “Where is God already moving around me?”

One question breeds fear.

The other awakens faith.

One looks for proof.

The other recognizes presence.

Lord, I confess that sometimes I can’t feel You, and it makes me wonder if You’re near. Remind me that Your presence is not fragile and Your love is not distant. Open my eyes to the quiet ways You are moving in my life. Anchor me in the truth that You are with me - fully, faithfully, and always. Amen.
