Psalm 46:1–3, 10
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea... ‘Be still, and know that I am God.’”

“Still” by Hillsong Worship
“When the oceans rise and thunders roar, I will soar with You above the storm. Father, You are King over the flood— I will be still and know You are God.”
Storms come in many forms—grief, anxiety, burnout, uncertainty. Psalm 46 doesn’t promise the absence of chaos; it promises God’s presence within it. The psalmist paints a vivid picture of natural disaster, yet anchors us in the truth: “God is our refuge.”
The Hillsong worship anthem “Still” echoes this promise. It invites us to rise above the storm—not by our own strength, but by surrender. The lyrics mirror the psalm’s call to stillness, not as passive silence, but as active trust.
In both scripture and song, we’re reminded that stillness is not weakness—it’s worship. It’s choosing to believe that God is sovereign even when everything shakes.
Personal Prompt:
What storm are you facing right now?
How might “being still” look for you today—emotionally, spiritually, or practically?
Can you name one way God has been your refuge this week?
Prayer:
Lord, when the waters rise and the noise overwhelms, teach me to be still. Anchor me in Your presence. Help me trust that You are my refuge, my strength, and my ever-present help. I surrender the storm to You. Amen.
